The following is a transcript of a filmed conversation between Ray Comfort and a very likable and sincere young man <\/em>named Kobe.<\/em><\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>Kobe, you think there\u2019s an afterlife?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>Yes, in fact, I do think there is an afterlife.<\/p>\n RAY:<\/strong> Why?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>Because, well, I\u2019m a Catholic, so I\u2019m kind of required to believe it. I think it\u2019s better than thinking there\u2019s nothing. And I like to think there is proof of it.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>Have you been born again?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>Have I been born again? That\u2019s an interesting question. I don\u2019t think so.<\/p>\n RAY:<\/strong> In John chapter 3 Jesus said unless you\u2019re born again you\u2019re not going to enter Heaven. He\u2019s not talking about being sprinkled as a baby or being christened; He\u2019s talking about repenting and putting your faith in Christ for your eternal salvation. Where the Holy Spirit enters you and you become a brand-new person in Christ, you pass from death to life, God opens the eyes of your understanding and gives you everlasting life as a free gift. The first time you were born it was radical; when you\u2019re born again it\u2019s just as radical so you would know. So, it\u2019s essential that we talk about being born again, because I want to see you in heaven, man. I don\u2019t want death to seize on you and God to give you justice. Do you believe the Bible?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>I do believe in the Bible, yes.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>Do you believe in demons?<\/p>\n KOBE:<\/strong> Yes, I do.<\/p>\n RAY:<\/strong> And Satan?<\/p>\n KOBE:<\/strong> Yes, I do.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>Do you know what Satan does according to the Bible?<\/p>\n KOBE:<\/strong> No.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>Well, he\u2019s called the tempter, and he tempts us to do that which is evil. Lying, stealing, blasphemy, fornication, adultery, rebellion against God. Temptation isn\u2019t sin, but if we yield to that temptation then we become culpable. Satan also blinds us to the truth of the gospel. This is what it says in the book of Corinthians: \u201cIn whom the god of this world, Satan, has blinded the minds of those that believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel should shine onto them\u201d [2 Corinthians 4:4]. Do you know what the gospel is?<\/p>\n KOBE:<\/strong> It\u2019s like words of the Lord, right?<\/p>\n RAY:<\/strong> No.<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>No? All right. Then explain it to me, please.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>The word \u201cgospel\u201d means good news. And it\u2019s the understatement of eternity. The good news is that Jesus Christ has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. The claims of the Bible are fantastic in the truest sense of the word. Like fantasy, they just don\u2019t make sense. Jesus Christ has abolished death? And brought light and immortality to light through the gospel? There are still people dying everywhere! Jesus said, \u201cI am He that was dead. Behold I am alive forevermore and hold the keys to death and Hell\u201d [Revelation 1:18]. And so, how could someone find everlasting life through the gospel and yet still be subject to death? I\u2019m going to share that with you.<\/p>\n KOBE:<\/strong> All right.<\/p>\n RAY:<\/strong> Let\u2019s say I\u2019m a doctor and you\u2019re a patient. You think you\u2019re very well. But I\u2019ve seen x-rays and I know you\u2019re dying, and you\u2019ve got two weeks. I\u2019ve got a cure, but I\u2019m not going to give you the cure straightaway. I want you to see the x-rays, because you\u2019re not going to appreciate and appropriate the cure if you don\u2019t believe you\u2019re diseased. Can you see that?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>Yes.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>Now, you think you are morally well. I\u2019m going to show you the x-rays \u2014the Ten Commandments. Can you handle that?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>Yes.<\/p>\n RAY:<\/strong> Can you be honest?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>Yes.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>Let\u2019s go to the tenth commandment. Have you ever desired something that belonged to somebody else?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>Yes.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>The first commandment: \u201cYou shall have no other gods before Me.\u201d Do you put God first in your life? Do you love Him with your heart, mind, soul, and strength?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>Not as much as I should, but I like to think that I do.<\/p>\n RAY:<\/strong> So, you do love God.<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>Yes.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>Have you ever used His name in vain?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>On accident, yes.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>How could it be on accident?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>It\u2019s just, you\u2019re surrounded by it everywhere, so then it just slips out occasionally.<\/p>\n RAY:<\/strong> So, would you ever use your mother\u2019s name as a cuss word, if everybody was doing it?<\/p>\n KOBE:<\/strong> No.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>You just wouldn\u2019t do that! So, Kobe, you don\u2019t love God if you\u2019ve used His name as a cuss word. Instead of saying the \u201cS\u201d word you\u2019ve used God\u2019s name in its place? That\u2019s called blasphemy, punishable by death in the Old Testament. Have you ever lied and stolen?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>Not stolen, but lied.<\/p>\n RAY:<\/strong> Never taken anything that belongs to somebody else, irrespective of its value?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>It\u2019s possible\u2026I just don\u2019t remember it.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>And finally\u2014we\u2019re looking at the x-rays and they\u2019re not good, not pleas- ant to look at because they\u2019re showing you you\u2019re diseased morally\u2014Jesus said, if you look at a woman and lust for her, you commit adultery with her in your heart. Have you ever looked at a woman with lust?<\/p>\n KOBE:<\/strong> Yes. More than likely.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>When did you last look at pornography?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>A year ago or so.<\/p>\n RAY:<\/strong> Yes, that\u2019s lust.<\/p>\n KOBE:<\/strong> Okay.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>So here\u2019s the summation. Kobe, I\u2019m not judging you; this is the x-rays to show you need this cure. You\u2019ve told me you\u2019re a liar, a blasphemer, an adulterer at heart, and we don\u2019t know if you\u2019re a thief because you can\u2019t remember. If God judges you by the Ten Commandments on Judgment Day, are you going to be innocent or guilty?<\/p>\n KOBE:<\/strong> Guilty.<\/p>\n RAY:<\/strong> Heaven or Hell?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>More than likely Hell.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>Now, does that concern you?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>Yes.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>It horrifies me, Kobe. I\u2019ve just met you, but I love you. And the thought of you going to Hell takes my breath away. So that brings us to the cure. You\u2019ve now seen the x-rays and you\u2019re going, \u201cWhat should I do?\u201d That brings us to the gospel\u2014that good news of everlasting life. What did God do for guilty sinners so we wouldn\u2019t have to go to Hell?<\/p>\n KOBE:<\/strong> Forgives them?<\/p>\n RAY:<\/strong> No. He did something.<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>He sacrificed His Son.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>Yes, on the cross. Most people know that. The Ten Commandments are called the moral law. You and I broke the law. Jesus paid the fine in full. That\u2019s what happened on the cross. If you\u2019re in court and someone pays your speeding fines, the judge can legally let you walk. He can say, \u201cOh, these fines are paid by another. You\u2019re guilty, but you can go.\u201d And God can take the death sentence off us in an instant\u2014not because we\u2019re good, but because He\u2019s good and kind and He provided a Savior. He can let us go because Jesus paid the fine in full. That\u2019s why Jesus said, \u201cIt is finished\u201d just before He died. He was saying \u201cpaid in full.\u201d And then He rose from the dead, defeating death.<\/p>\n It was not possible for death to hold Him. And if you will sim- ply repent, and trust alone in Jesus\u2014 not in your goodness, but trust in Jesus\u2014you\u2019ve got a promise from the God who cannot lie, that He will remit your sins in an instant and give you everlasting life as a free gift.<\/p>\n This is what the Bible says: \u201cThe wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord\u201d [Romans 6:23]. That\u2019s why the Bible says that Jesus has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. When you\u2019re born again, He\u2019ll give you His Holy Spirit, and that Spirit is life itself. And when there\u2019s life, there\u2019s no death. It\u2019s like when you turn a light on: the dark- ness leaves. When God puts His Holy Spirit within you and you\u2019re born again\u2014born of the Spirit\u2014the presence of life banishes death. So, when I die, I go straight into the presence of God. I\u2019ve got everlasting life as a free gift\u2014don\u2019t have to earn it, don\u2019t de- serve it. It comes by God\u2019s amazing grace. Is this making sense?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>Yes.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>Are you going to think about what we talked about?<\/p>\n KOBE:<\/strong> Most definitely.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>When are you going to repent and put your faith in Christ?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>As soon as I can.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>Can we do it now?<\/p>\n KOBE: <\/strong>Yes!<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>May I pray with you?<\/p>\n KOBE:<\/strong> Of course.<\/p>\n RAY:<\/strong> It\u2019s a matter of your will, Kobe. If you just say, \u201cOh God, please forgive me. I\u2019m a sinner. I\u2019ve done things I know are wrong. Wash me clean. Create in me a clean heart. I trust Jesus as my Savior.\u201d Just say that within your heart and I\u2019ll pray with you.<\/p>\n Father, I pray for Kobe. Thank you for his open and honest heart. I pray that he, this day, will be born of Your Spirit. That he\u2019ll pass from death to life because he\u2019s calling upon the name of the Lord, and You have said that whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. You\u2019ve said You are able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Jesus. May Your hand be upon him today. Please make him a new creature in Christ with a love of righteousness, born again, pass- ing from death to life, all because of Your kindness. In Jesus\u2019 name we pray, amen.<\/p>\n KOBE:<\/strong> Amen.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>Do you have a Bible at home?<\/p>\n KOBE:<\/strong> I do, yes.<\/p>\n RAY: <\/strong>You\u2019ve made my day, Kobe.
